Sports Wine
Ding wine is done. I've been working with Sports Wine for over 3 years and here are the first bottles that actually have wine in them. This is a major accomplishment for our team of many. Good job everyone. Now lets see how the wine tastes. Thanks to Josh for taking the wine pictures www.lacunha.com

Greeting Card Mentor Meeting
Today I met with Cheryl Phelps about the direction of my greeting card designs. I have decided to do a mailing campaign for 2009 and try to sell some of the designs I have been working on for over two years. I recently created a new set of Halloween Designs for my licensing line called Snacks & Treats.

UCSF Art Show
Monday's art show was a huge success. My friends, coworkers, and even one of my teachers were in attendance. A full house and live music provided a wonderful atmosphere for the sale of my first Plein Air Piece. The lucky owner of an Alisha Wilson original is pictured above. I am currently looking for my next show.

Last Day of Summer
This painting makes me think about life and compromise. As you grow you learn who you are. I never thought I didn't know who I was, until I started learning who I really was. Learning what I need to be happy and most of all learning that I deserve to be happy. Learning to keep your eyes open to what is really happening around you and not to live in a fantasy of what could happen if only. . . If something isn't working then change.
Change
Change the poem, change the line,
change the meaning, change the rhyme,
change the outcome change the plan,
change the mood, change the man.
Change your looks, change your smile,
change your going, stay awhile,
change your past, change your time,
change your future, stay be mine.

Camping Plein Air Painting
<
I went camping last weekend and it was so much fun! Josh caught 4 fish, and I did a painting. You can see a picture of the painting about half way done underneath the finished piece. This is the first Plein Air painting I've done since the Art Show, so it's been a few weeks. I got into another art show. It will be on October 6th . I'll give more details later.

Heart Walk Tee Shirt Design
This is my Tee shirt Design for the Gladstone Heart Walk Team. I made this design by taking a picture of my friend Kenny's smelly shoes, and photoshopping them so they looked clean (a lot of work). Then I Photoshopped the laces into a heart shape (I wish I had just taken a picture of the laces in this shape but Kenny took his shoes home). Next I colored the laces red, and using live trace in illustrator I turned this masterpiece into vector art. Last I added the text and sent off my entry. Every year Gladstone has a tee shirt design contest. I won last year so I'm trying again for win number two. Wish me luck!

Jovica Veljovic
Tonight I went to a slide lecture by Jovica Veljovic, calligrapher, printmaker, teacher and word-renowned type designer, from Hamburg, Germany. I found his calligraphic fonts to be beautiful. I was inspired by some of the hand printed letter forms I saw. This talk opened my eyes to how in depth Font design is, and how much work goes into designing a font.
Focus Magazine
The Gladstone Communications Department just finished an Issue of the FOCUS Magazine. This issue was produced with a very different process then the previous issues. I think the new process lets more of the department see the intermediate steps and be a part of the outcome. Over all this has improved the work flow in our department. I designed the cover for this issue and much of the contenent. I really enjoy creating magazine layout.

Meeting With Sports Wine CEO
I had dinner with one of my long time clients Evans Arnold last night. He was in town from Massachuttes for a few days. We ate at the Cliff House, the food was good and the restaurant was really cool. Evans showed me many things including samples of some of the work I had done for him, pictures of a humming bird nest (which is about as big as a piece of sushi), and pictures of $80,000 carved and painted wood birds that his dad made. In the background of this picture there is a POS that moves and displays the linticular image that appear on the wine bottles. Very fun night Thanks Evans!

Art Show and Apres
We had our art show on August 9th. Thanks to everyone that came. We had a really great turn out. It was really fun and really tiring. I've forgotten how much work it is to put on a show. Throw a car accident and a framing mishap into the mix and it makes for a very crazy time. I'm going to keep painting Plein Air but I feel less pressure to create work. I'm also going to be turning my focus on my greeting card illustrations for a while. I was working a lot on Greeting cards until I joined the Plein Air club, which was a nice distraction. I meet with my Mentor Cheryl Phelps (gift ware industry master) in October. I have a lot of work to do before then. I had nothing to do tonight, no framing, no freelance work, no gatherings to go to. It was weird, and the calm was almost nerve racking. I was thinking "what should I be doing" all night. It's hard to go go go and then stop it's like your body and mind still want to go, but there is no where to go.

Painting on the Roof with Tony
Tony and I painted on the roof of Art Explosion today. It is so much fun to paint up there although it's a little scary to get up there. Tony had to go surfing today so I only had an hour to paint this (I usually take 3 hours). It was interesting to paint so fast and sloppy but it loosened me up a little. Good Times

Santa Barbara Vacation
I went to Santa Barbara for 5 Days to visit my cousin Timmy. I did 2 paintings on my visit and I think they are the worlds best souvenirs. I went Frisbee golfing for the first time in my life and I loved it. I can't wait to find somewhere I can go in the Bay area. Timmy and I also golfed 18 holes at the Glen Annie Golf course: http://www.glenanniegolf.com/main/ it was Beautiful! We also went out for amazing sushi where Tim accidentally ordered a LARGE Saki instead of a large beer, oh well I guess we can't let this go to waste. We went out to some really fun bars, and ate leftover Chicken Parm, good job Timmy. We also made a milkshake out of Ben & Jerry's half baked (my fav). It was an awesome vacation, and much needed.

Alisha's Watercolor Painting of Carnaval
Plein Air- adj:
Of or being a style of painting produced out of doors in natural light.
We are going to have a Plein Air art show on August 9th in San Francsico. I will keep you posted on the details.
Power Point 2007
On May 19th and 20th I took 8 Sections of PowerPoint 2007 classes. I took these classes at Learnit.com. They were really informative classes and I will use this information a lot. I make powerpoint slides for Scientists at Gladstone (my fulltime job), as well as my own freelance clients. PowerPoint 2007 has advanced a lot. The template designs that you can choose from look more professional then they have in the past.
